Christmas is over and it’s time for the decorations to come down.

And while you might be tempted to just throw everything in a box and forget about it until December, you’ll thank yourself if you take some time to do it properly now.

One woman has posted an easy way to tidy up the lights so you don’t have to face the untangling next time you use them.

Taking a piece of scrap cardboard, she ripped a tab at each end and then simply wound the lights around it.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargaining group, she said: ‘Life hack and save you a bit of money!

‘Use leftover cardboard from your Xmas pressies and use them to wrap your Xmas lights.’

Over 3,000 people liked the post and said it would be useful for their own decorations.

One said: ‘I ALWAYS do this is so much easier.’

Another added: ‘I am not untangling the tree lights next Christmas!!!!’

‘I have been doing this for years so glad when it comes to putting the tree up,’ another comment said.

Some suggested using a Christmas card for the trick but others prefer a toilet roll tube or something circular.

Someone commented: ‘I used a Pringles tube to wrap mine round and put plug end inside with lid on.’

Another good suggestion was to use a coat hanger to carefully wrap the lights.

Whatever you choose to use, take a little time now.
